Mandarin-speaking students are more likely to get good grades

A ten-year study conducted by a professor at University of British Columbia finds Mandarin-speaking girls are four times more likely than other Asian students to get good grades in high school. Education Prof. Lee Gunderson at UBC has been examining trends among immigrant students in Vancouver public schools for more than a decade. Gunderson said his latest study examined the stereotype that Asian students are all high-performers by comparing Grade 12 marks of groups that speak Mandarin, Cantonese and other Asian languages.

The 5th Kindergarten and Primary School Putonghua Contest has been successfully concluded on May 1, 2010. The prize presentation ceremony held right after the final was well-attended by over 650 students, parents and teachers. They all had a joyful and memorable moment. Mandarin TV Channel

Four major state-owned enterprises and the Bank of Beijing signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hong Kong based ATV. “Quasi-shareholder” Wing Fung Holdings Chairman Wang Zheng , said he is planning to apply for a permit set up a Mandarin cable TV channel targeting at the audience of mainland China. Mr. Wang ambitiously announced that his aim is to make the whole world watch ATV which will be positioned as the Asia’s CNN. (Sing Tao Daily reported)
